Smackdown DH

The first BC Cup was held this past weekend on a north shore trail called Neds Atomic Dustbin located on Seymour Mountain. There has never been a BC Cup on the shore so this event was much anticipated with lots of people enthusiastic about racing a trail you can ride every day. Things get very interesting when you put a clock to a trail you have ridden for 15 years. You may think you know the trail but racing is a different story. After some great practise runs early in the week, I was ready to go on race day. I placed 6th in my category. Sometimes you win practise but it does not go so well on your run. That’s racing, the clock does not lie. Well on to Kamloops for the next event and a better result.

Web segment

Here is our ‘do-it-yourself’ web segment from last summer.

Major props to Taylor Loughran, for the wicked shots, helping build everything, and guinea pigging our first cable. Major props to Justin Hannewyk of Precip productions for killing it on the crane and hauling it throughout the back country as well as rocking the editing room. Big Thanks to Ross Mcmaster, Richie Schley, Darcy Wittenburg and Colin Jones for helping us pull it all together.

Smackdown in North Van

Hey readers, I just got back from the first BC cup of the year, the “Smackdown DH” in N. Van. I thought I would be racing pro/elite but when I got there I was in Senior Men. I won that category and came 5th overall, a time that would have won me some money had I have been in pro.  It was a great weekend and a fun course!

Pro GRT Video

Holden

Mikey finished his video from the Pro GRT a few weeks back so I thought I would post it up. He did a great job. We went straight from riding all day to filming this…hence the dirt on my face (and messy hair) that I didn’t even notice. Whooops! haha.

I just got back from the US Open. It didn’t go so well for me, I couldn’t pull myself together when it mattered. I am pretty bummed about it but that’s how it goes sometimes. I have a race recap on my website www.katieholden.com if you want to check it out.

I have three more days of school and then its summer for me. So excited. Shred time!!!!

North Shore Bike Fest

Winter Training in the summer.

Just got back from attending the North Shore Bike Fest. A bunch of us Bear Back Biking boys went down to test ourselves in the Marathon XC race. It’s the first event of the northern hemisphere summer so none of us knew where our fitness would be. (continue reading…)

May Long Weekend at Smokes

May Long Weekend. Ahhhh, the bike season is in full swing. I loaded up my Rocky Flatline, girlfriend Sarah, and my baby girl Jessamy into my truck (not necessarily in that order) and drove from North Van to Westbank, BC…home of Johnny Smoke and Barb Haley. They have an annual riding sess every year…hence the ‘annual’. ha ha Sarah had ridden there before and talked me into going in 08…it rocked! This time there were 30 people in the house, camping in the expansive back yard, wallowing in the hottub, lounging around the fire pit or tinkering with their steeds in the assorted bike stands when we arrived. Bike nerds all. I felt right at home.

Kranked 8

The human powered bicycle is an amazing invention, Leonardo DaVinci really outdid himself when he thought of this thing. Imagine if he could see what it has become to this day and the kind of things it is doing. I wonder if he world even be able to comprehend it. Watching me throw it off crazy lines or see Casey tail whip it. Kranked 8 is coming out this June, and I think this will be one to check out. It is a tribute to the greatest human powered creation ever made, and to those who devote their lives to pushing it beyond it’s capabilities so that our industry can progress and invent for the future of this sport which holds a long history.

Kranked has had mixed reviews from the past releases (6 and 7) and I would agree, but I think this one is going to present something unique. The riders have really stepped up, and the filming has taken a huge leap forward.
