Why Is It Still Winter?

Old Man Winter sure had me fooled this year. Up until last week Kamloops had received very little snow and only a few days of reasonably cold weather. My friends and I were able to get in a lot of winter rides on either frozen dirt at lower elevations, or icy rides with spiky tires further up the mountains. This was all good fun because it seemed like spring would be rolling in just around the corner. However, all our hopes of that came crashing down over the past two weeks.

For some reason or another, winter finally hit. We’ve received more snow in the past two weeks than we had the entire winter prior. It appears as though its still melting quickly, but it surely put a dent a few weeks deep into the expected arrival of the trail shredding season. Without being able to ride I have had to spend a little more time exploring outdoors to keep busy and I can’t say that has been bad at all. I’ve been helping Hunter scope for upcoming movie segments, making campfires in the most epic locations, learning to drive machinery and even spotting such unusual to Kamloops occurrences as ice bergs floating in the lake and red necks dangling their snowmobiles off the back of their pickup’s window racks. Well, maybe the latter of those isn’t so unusual around here, Haha! Hopefully this snow is gone soon or I’m going to loose my mind.
See ya soon!

Chubey

Mitch Chubey and the rest of the Morpheus Cycles team at the 2011 Red Bull District ride. It’s an interesting look at how the riders survey and dial in the course. Chubey and the Morpheus team are going to put the hurt on the FMB series in 2012.

Life In The Loops

I am pretty fired up about the 2012 season rolling in quickly here and I am looking forward to another year of my bikes and gear bags being kitted out with Race Face goods! One of my new projects for 2012 is a monthly column on Pinkbike.com, which I’ll be linking off of hear in addition to my other posts.

If you’ve stumbled upon any of my riding or written work on this website over the past few seasons then it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that I love my life here in the loops. The city of Kamloops has played host to some of the most rampant and memorable moments of my life and as time rolls on, the situations only continue to escalate. I’m so tightly bound to this town and all its otherworldly wonder that I don’t think I will ever get away, and at this point in time I have no intention to. People often question how a young man born on the east coast and raised in the great white north would have come to call Kamloops home, and that story seems as fitting a way as any to start my monthly column.

Look forward to a lot more from me soon.
See you on the trails,
Dylan

2012

4 days ago I was shredding pow while ski guiding, at Retallack cat skiing, in the Kootneys today and for the two days previous I have been riding bikes in Squamish in a t-shirt and shorts…What a province!

Looking forward to 2012 with the Raceface! Stoked for Canadian made components, stylish clothes and my favorite flank knee/shin pads.

Here is a little segment we made for North Shore Bike Shop (in North Vancouver, B.C.) check it out!

Stoked to be Part of the Team!

Hey Raceface Shredders,

My name is Sarah Leishman and I am a member of Raceface’s International team for 2012. I came onto the program a bit late last season and am pumped to be a part of the program for 2012. Here’s a little bit of info about me to get y’all warmed up:

-I live in Whistler. I moved here from Alberta a few years back so I could ride my bike full time and it has proven to be the best decision of my life so far.

-In the summer I ride bikes full time – sometimes I coach at different bike camps, sometimes I work at Fanatyk Co. in the village and sometimes I work for the bike park patrol. I need to be shredding every day from April to October to stay fast, happy and sane. Any kind of shredding will do (I really love the bike park) but it’s gotta happen.

Never been to Burns Lake, BC? You should go - here's a hint why. Gunner photo.
