RACEFACE HOME

Hi from the Bicycle Cafe!

For anyone who doesn’t know me, my name is Dylan John Sherrard and I am a 19 year old bike shredder from  Kamloops B.C. I moved to Kamloops from Whitehorse a few years ago so that I could have killer riding and really long riding seasons at my finger tips. I work at the Bicycle Cafe Kamloops, ride for Kona Bikes , Pilot the Bicycle Cafe Team and ride almost every day.  Check out my May update for the team and a few photos of myself!

Bicycle Café Team May Update

I’m not sure if things are slowing down a bit right now or if I am just getting used to having a crazy schedule. For the month of may it seems as though we have developed a trend of riding lots during the week and saving either big events or epic rides for the weekends. I think I’ve been doing a good job of keeping track of all the riders so far, as well as working on learning how to find a balance between working, riding almost everyday, shooting photos and building. So everything has been rolling pretty smooth lately.

Starting off the action this month was the Unicorn 5000 downhill race, a race aiming to be as fun and completely unserious as possible (as the title may suggest!) Cheryl and the whole team put a ton of effort into organizing things and the event went off with huge success, seeing riders traveling from all over to come take part. Almost every one of our team riders raced and put in some solid times, especially Marcie Shatula who took 1st place in the Women’s category while fully costumed as a unicorn! It was nice to see everyone get together for such a fun event and also cool to see some of you guys out helping make sure that things ran smoothly as well, thanks!

The following weekend Marcie Shatula and myself jetted off to a small town called Oliver where we met up with a bunch of friends from near and far to go on some super epic descents. To my surprise I ran into Dan Barham. Dan is one of my favourite photographers(and deffinitely my favourite english-man!) and I hadn’t seen him since last fall so I was ecstatic. On top of that, I had the pleasure of meeting one of mountain bikings original shredders, Brett Tippie.

With a huge group of riders that weekend a small posse consisting of Marcie, Tippie, myself and the photographers sort of tailed the back
of the group. We enjoyed two different 4000ft descents filled with loamy corners and steep shoots.

Our Downhill specialist, Justin Terwiel, has been working on the development of his new coaching business , “Limitless Bike Company.” His plan is to offer an extremely unique learning experience with a fun, enjoyable atmosphere for riders. Justin has been having a lot of success with running day camps around town, using them to sort a general idea of the group of people he will be working with at Sun Peaks Resort this summer. I’ve also pulled Justin along for a few photo shoots with local camera wizard Allan Mcvicar and the results have been awesome.

As the month came to a close I teamed up with some buddies, Kurt Sorge and Graham Agassiz, to film a short story about the Kamloops Bike Ranch and its place in the community for Shaw T.V. We had lots of fun messing around with the T.V. guys and the show aired on the local Shaw station all last week. I also had a meeting with some marketing people and the trail crew from Sun Peaks Resort last week to discuss plans for the bike park and plans for filming and shooting in the park this
year. By the sounds of things there should be a lot of stellar projects coming to life at the hill this year. I was also super pumped to find out that a photo of one of our young team riders, Ian Killick, will be featured on the lift tickets for the bike park this summer. I can’t believe we are heading into June already. Time is really
flying, but I hear that’s how it goes when you’re having lots of fun.
