I ride for nicks eyes has been a huge success!

Nick has reported that his recent eye surgury has been a success and that he has regained the vision that he was losing! A Big thank you to all in our Mountain Biking Family for coming together to help out one of our own. Nick still has a lot of rehab and recovery to work through but the results have been amazing so far. Big Love from Nick to all that have helped out!

Pair of Dice Mines
On of the main reasons i headed out to race the Canadian Nationals was that it was held in Panorama this year, which is just across the valley from a zone i have wanted to ride for several years now. So after racing the Nats, a crew of us headed up to explore the area, after a long shuttle, an hours worth of road clearing (with seven people, that was a lot of snow) and several long hikes we were rewarded with rides that were more like skiing then mountain biking. The wide open terrain and amazing dirt allowed you to rip turns wherever, whenever, double up anything or just open it up and keep your fingers of the brakes.
Here is Darryl”s Go Pro headcam footage of the day.

Back in the Loop
Although I never left Kamloops, I have certainly been out of the loop for a while. Breaking my Scaphoid bone in Merritt last fall proved to be one of the most difficult situations I’ve ever dealt with. Being misdiagnosed on my initial trip to the doctor lead to riding on a broken hand for a month and making the injury a lot worse. Long story short, it is May now and I’ve jut begun to ride my bike again.

Race season is coming up fast
My off season training has gone great and the first race of the BC cup series is coming up fast. The first race is Race the Ranch in Kamloop’s with a totally redesigned DH course, which is supposed to be very fast with lot’s of new jumps, which should be lot’s of fun. Just took some pictures after school this week for some of my sponsors, thanks to Greg Cooney for the great shots.

2009 BC Cup
Neds Practice
So the dust settles on another year of the BC Cup downhill. This year was the best of seven and what a variety of courses we saw. Every downhill course on the circuit was different from the previous and led to a well rounded series.
We started the season with the Neds Smackdown. Unusual as it sounds, this was the first time a BC Cup downhill race was held on Vancouver’s North Shore mountains. Most Vancouver riders have ridden Neds Atomic Dustbin a lot, but it became a whole different trail to ride once a race was being held. I had never seen so many people checking out lines on a trail in the weeks coming up to the event. Everyone was expecting the worse with wet roots and rock but the weather was sunny and the course as tacky as Neds could get. Neds was about staying smooth and not flatting on the rough chunder at the top, making the jumps and going hard to the finish.

US National Champs…

So i just finished National Championships down in Sol Vista, Colorado. Lets just say I was not a fan of the course and I didn’t get the stars and bars I set out to get but I am walking away from the race pretty freaking stoked. (continue reading…)
